Where to go in Vancouver? Our list of places to visit in our city

We've been talking about a guide to Vancouver forever and having FIfa come to town made us finally put one together. These are the places we go back to again and again as well as a few newer mentions. The shops, spots, cafes and restaurants we love. We love our city, even with all it's issues, when the sun is shining and we are sitting on the beach looking up at the mountains we feel pretty lucky to live here.

COMMERCIAL DRIVE
We live on The Drive and are susceptible to its charms.

Where you can find us at least once or thrice a week: Livia! Claire's generosity and passion shine in everything she makes, whether it's her panzanella, seasonal danishes, or the perfect sandwich. The Negronis aren't bad either! We both live in a two block radius and consider this our office away from home.

We love to hit the Trout Lake Farmers Market on a Saturday morning after a walk around the lake which is always so beautiful no matter the season. We love to grab a Cardamom Knot from Tall Shadow Bakery or Jamaican Patty from Morgan's Harbour tor walking around. We never leave without a bottle of the Revolver Hot Sauce, every single one is delicious but right now Cilantro+Lime is on heavy rotation and /or Celebration Mixed Salad greens from Glorious Organics.

Visit he boutique Gatley for the comfiest but also presentable pair of pants, a beautiful candle or a bright pair of socks.

For dinner we recommend the most delicious Pasta Del Giorno at La Tana, or an Ume or Papurika Cocktail and a Big Eye Tuna Tortilla at Nomo Nomo or the Halloumi Fries at Jam Jar

For the old school Italian vibe grab a grilled sandwich at La Grotta Del Formaggio, a cream filled puffball from Fratelli and a cappuccino at Cafe Calabria.

GASTOWN

Visit. Neighbour Object for ceramics, desktop accessories and Japanese paper goods.
The Paper Hound Bookshop is a delight, Always find something you don't see anywhere else.

Revolver Coffee for a jolt of caffeine and a tasty baked good to keep your energy up.

Checkout Dressew, the most eclectic fabric store where you can find a sequin patch of the solar system, assorted buttons in any colour, a disco ball in many sizes or a halloween mask just for kicks. This will sadly close-down in 2027.

The Block for great jeans and vibrant patterned dresses you can't find anywhere else. Also One of a Few for young up and coming designers is right across the street.

KITSILANO
Best place to lounge all day is any of the beaches! Grab a bike or walk the sea wall. Plop down wherever you find a log ro lean on. We like to swim at Spanish Banks or Locarno ourselves.

We have to recommend Wet Coast Wools on West 4th for yarn! We always have a sweater or something on our knitting needles and this is one of our favourite shops to find quality yarn.

Old Faithful  for design books or Japanese incense and pottery.

Cow Dog for the vibe that you are in a trendy Japanese cafe complete with a record player and books on every table.

Zulu Records is one of the oldest records stores still standing in Vancouver. Great selection of used records too.

Their There for a delicious Avocado Benny or a Fried Chicken sandwich.

MAIN STREET

Sunja Link Body Shoppe for all the good smells and eternal youth. Her face and beauty house line is heavenly. Book a facial while you are at it!

Stop in at Collage Collage for crafting supplies and kid gifts. Grab some googly eyes and pom poms and make something awesome today.

We love Itsumo on 6th at Main for beautiful Japanese housewares and incense. The place to go for a gift for the person that is impossible to shop for.

Coco et Olive has beautiful striped candles, thin blown glassware, and electric coloured espresso makers. We want everything In this shop.

There is a number of clothing stores that we love: shop Eugene Choo, Nouvelle Nouvelle, Hey Jude, Woo to See You for a new outfit.

Regional Assembly of Text is one of our favourite stationery stores. They make amazing items (cards, tea towels and other objects) for their own line but carry many of the best notebooks, pens and other cool bits and bobs. Great for stocking stuffers or gifts.

Off Main is Queen Elizabeth Park which has the most beautiful collections of roses. Go at dusk and be treated to some of the sweetest smells in the city.

WEST END

You can't visit the West End without a visit to Stanley Park. One of the biggest urban parks in North America. We love walking the Sea Wall and visiting the Totem Poles. You can catch a cricket game or take a swim at Second Beach Pool or Third Beach. Campout for the day and have dinner at the concession. Best view of the city - catch the sunset if you can.

If you need a place for dinner, Denman or Robson Street has a tonne of places. We are partial to Nook, Legendary Noodle and any place with gyoza or dumplings like Guu!

Favourite coffee shop / brunch spot is Green Horn Cafe. Tucked away on the perfect little side street with a great patio.

Check out the brutalist bunker that’s the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. The largest city pool we have that’s slated for demolition next year so catch it while you can. Then grab an Aqua Bus for a tour of False Creek.

STRATHCONA / CHINATOWN

Finch's Tea House for the best Pear and Blue Brie Salad or the perfect Vegetarian sandwich. Their ice cream sundaes are amazing too!

Bao Bei is on every Vancouver list for a reason! Get the King Pea Tips and the Shao Bing. ALso you can't miss with the Sichaun Fried Chicken.

We love PIzza Coming Soon for a super fun for dinner too. Great music and a nice menu for sharing with a crowd.

We love Massy Books for finding books we haven't heard of or classics we haven't seen in a while. Excellent staff and community care.

Can't go to Chinatown without a visit to Sun Yat Sen Gardens. Perfect place find some respite from the city.

Chinatown has changed a lot in the last 10 years. We are missing a lot of the old businesses but are intrugued by the new generation putting down roots. Walk Pender to grab some snacks and see the mix of old and new.

GRANVILLE ISLAND

No trip to Granville Island would be complete without a visit to our studio Banquet Workshop!! SO many prints, cards. totes and t-shirts. Something for everyone on your list.

Passion Fruit Beignets or a Salted Caramel Canele from La Bise Bakery in the Market are not to be missed!

Granville Island Tea Market has tea from all over the world. Highly recommend their Provence Rooibos and Double Cream Earl Grey

There is some great book shops on the island. We love Nooroongi and Upstart and Crow.

A classic for a reason Paper-Ya has a great selection of eclectic gifts

For the kids, the water park and Kids Only Market are super fun. Also the Licorice Parlour for some fun candy from around the world.
